Tinkuy was first published in 2005 by the Hispanic Studies section of the Department of Literatures and Modern Languages (Université de Montréal). The journal circulates the results of research conducted by professors and students at the University of Montreal, as well as by students, professors and colleagues from other universities in North America, Latin America and Europe.

The journal aims to create a place for theoretical and methodological debate and attempts to provide a conceptual platform for Hispanic Studies in the areas of Linguistics and Literature. This periodical a biannual publication and each number is edited by a professor of the Hispanic Studies section.
